Message The rear wheels of the car act as a wheel and axle... the only thing is, rather than having a larger diamter for the force, the force is applied to the smaller diameter (axle) and extended through the infinite number of torque arms (distance from hub axis to friction surface). That would leave me to believe that the larger the wheel, the more torque you would need to apply to the axle to spin the assembly, but you would also receive a larger tangential force due to the longer torque arm.

It just seems like the wheel is another gear in the system, and thus should affect ratios and power output at the friction surface of the tire. This is all conceptual stuff and obviously there's an explanation for why you can put a larger diameter tire on your car and still use a dyno, I just don't have the experience to know. Do these two concepts act to cancel each other out, or am I way off here? Does it matter at all?
